It's never to late, Break the Addiction

Klonopin Addiction Treatment

Sprout Health Arizona’s Treatment For Klonopin Addiction

Klonopin is part of the benzodiazepines family and helps manage anxiety, convulsions and seizures. It works by suppressing the effects of the body’s natural neurotransmitter, Gamma Aminobutyric Acid (GABA), which sends chemical messages from the brain to the nervous system. Klonopin can significantly affect the chemistry in the brain and increase the risk of addiction.

In fact, Klonopin as well as Xanax and Ativan, account for over 63,000 emergency room visits in just one year. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, in 2014, there were over 55 million Americans age 12 and older who abused benzos and 8,000 deaths due to benzo overdose.

At Sprout Health Arizona, we understand that detoxing from benzos can be extremely dangerous because they not only affect electrical signals in the brain but dopamine, serotonin and acetylcholine levels and natural blood pressure regulators as well. When removing benzos from the body, it causes an overstimulation of the brain and can damage the physiologic and psychologic functions of the body. The body will experience many withdrawal symptoms, including:

  • Increased blood pressure
  • Racing heart
  • Lack of oxygen
  • Inability to sleep
  • Delusion
  • Aggravation
  • Hallucinations
  • Anxiety
  • Night terrors
  • Muscle spasms
  • Shock
  • Confusion
  • Tiredness
  • Dizziness
  • Inability to think straight
  • Depression

The best way to detox from benzos is taking it step by step and very slowly. We do not recommend quitting benzos cold turkey; the risk of your body going into shock and shutting down are significantly increased.

Sprout Health Arizona also offers a wide variety of therapies to help combat substance addiction. We highly recommend attending sessions of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. This therapy is evidence based and has been proven to effectively treat benzo addiction. It allows the patients to identify their triggers and maladaptive behaviors and learn how to manage them efficiently. We also offer experiential therapies and holistic approaches to teach our patients how to meditate, focus on their thoughts and learn coping mechanisms.

Sprout Health Arizona provides as many therapies and treatments as possible. We create highly individualized plans to provide the best possible treatments that meet our patient’s unique needs. Our goal is for you to achieve a successful and long-lasting recovery.
